The General Assembly allocates to the Third Committee, agenda items relating to a range of social, humanitarian affairs and human rights issues that affect people all over the world.

An important part of the work of the Committee focuses on the examination of human rights questions, including reports of the special procedures of the Human Rights Council which was established in 2006. The Committee hears and interacts with special rapporteurs, independent experts, and chairs of working groups as mandated by the Human Rights Council.

The Committee also discusses questions relating to the advancement of women, the protection of children, indigenous issues, the treatment of refugees, the promotion of fundamental freedoms through the elimination of racism and racial discrimination, and the right to self- determination.  The Committee also addresses important social development questions such as issues related to youth, family, ageing, persons with disabilities, crime prevention, criminal justice, and international drug control.

The Chairpersons

Alexandru Lumină

After attending my first MUN conference back in 2018, I knew from the very beginning that they would eventually become one of my greatest passions. Making my 8th conference and my second time as a chairperson, I am beyond honored to take part in the exquisite LazărMUN experience, sharing my first time in a SOCHUM committee with one of the most amazing and talented people I know, Ema Melihov.  Therefore, I will do everything within my boundaries to stimulate and provide guidance for all the delegates, regardless of their experience in the MUN community, in order to make this year’s edition a memorable one.

Ema Melihov

Hi everyone! My name is Ema and I am a junior at Saint Sava National College. I am passionate about a strange variety of fields, such as economics, arts and politics. Just like my sign, Leo, I can be defined as outgoing, passionate and determined, but also the adventurous type, always seeking for unexpected experiences. I am sure that LazărMUN 2.0 will be one of these and I really hope you will join me and Alex in what will be the best SOCHUM committee so far!
